Easy and Cheap Dorm Room Wall Decor DIY

This post shows you a dorm room wall decor DIY.

diy hanging art in a dorm room

I don’t know about you, but I am obsessed with planning different dorm room decor DIY’s.

I am constantly on Pinterest looking at some different DIY’s I can make that will make my room look so cute but I have been having such a hard time finding ideas that I actually like. They all look so cheap to me!

I’ve been thinking about cute ways to cover my dorm walls (they’re ugly cinderblock!) and came up with an idea to design a board with some of my favorite quotes.

I had some free time this weekend and with a little brainstorming/trip to Home Depot, I decided to get ahead of the game and start whipping up some of my dorm room creations I’ve been thinking about.

I ended up making three wood boards with painted quotes and I LOVE the way this project turned out. It was so cheap and easy that I knew I had to share it with all of you.

Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how you can recreate your own cheap and easy dorm room wall decor.

UPDATE: Three years later and I STILL have these hanging in my dorm room. People always ask where I bought them and are shocked to learn I painted them myself. If you are looking to complete this project, do it! It withstands many different phases of trends ;). I updated the majority of these pictures with recent pics from my dorm room so you can see just how cute they look.

Supplies Needed:

1// I picked up the plywood from Home Depot. I ended up going with a lighter colored plywood that had a smooth texture. Home Depot is the best and they cut all my plywood for free. All of the pieces (3 with a small piece left over) cost me $12.

2// I choose the quotes I wanted by looking through Pinterest to some that stood out to me. Once I had the quotes chosen I decided how I wanted to lay it out, making sure each quote had one word that would be emphasized.

I went into Photoshop and edited the words to be spread out in alignment. If you don’t know how to use Photoshop this part can be super confusing. Luckily for you, Canva is the best editing tool and is free.

wood boards lined up for dorm room diy project

On Canva, put in the exact size of your boards. Then you will be able to put the words the exact size and spacing you want them. If your boards are my size, you will see that the wording will be printed on to multiple pieces of paper. To make it easier for you, I recommend taping those papers together.

3// I then used the tracing paper and traced all the words onto the board. If you did it correctly, you should have a faint white or black outline of all the letters. Since I used white paint, I choose to go with white tracing paper. I wouldn’t recommend using graphite transfer paper if you plan on using white paint.

4// After tracing, I took a thin paintbrush and painted every single letter. This can take a long time so you might want to have Netflix running in the background while doing this. Try to have straight lines BUT I can promise you that if you have a few mess-ups you really won’t be able to tell when it is done.

5// Since you can’t use nails in your dorm room, I just used command strips to hold it onto the wall and it worked out great.

You need all the motivation and positivity as you can get in college so it really is perfect for a dorm. Plus, this dorm room wall decor DIY is so cheap that you can throw it away at the end of the year (EDIT: …or be like me and use them for years after you made them 😉.

6 Dorm Bathroom Essentials All College Freshman Need

This post shows you dorm bathroom essentials.

girl wearing towel that shows the dorm bathroom essentials you do not want to forget to bring to college

When you head off to college there are so many things to remember to take that sometimes certain things are forgotten.

From my own personal experience, I, of course, remembered all my makeup, facewash, and hair stuff but beyond that, I didn’t bring any dorm bathroom essentials.

I’m talking bathroom organization, towels, makeup supplies, etc. All things I have and use at home that I completely forgot about taking to college!

I have put a list together of the most used dorm bathroom essentials that all freshman should bring to college.

This post is an extension from my Dorm Essentials for 2018 where I go over everything and anything freshman need moving into a dorm. I highly recommend all freshman to check out that post, it will fill you in on all the things you actually need to get for your dorm.

Dorm Bathroom Essential #1: A mesh shower caddy.

shower caddy as a dorm bathroom essential

Click here to view this shower caddy.

This is definitely a dorm bathroom essential.

Freshman year I purchased a plastic caddy and sophomore year I purchased this caddy. After trying them both, I like this caddy MUCH more.

The reason is that the plastic caddy would retain the water once I got out of the shower and once I would bring it back to my dorm, it would get my whole dorm floor wet. This mesh caddy allows you to get a lot of the water out before you bring it back to the dorm so it’s much cleaner.

Also, you have to put the plastic caddy on the bathroom ground (gross) whereas this one you can hang on the hooks in the shower because it can reach them.

This caddy is only $7.99.

Dorm Bathroom Essential #2: Makeup Organizer.

clear makeup organizer for a dorm bathroom essential

Click here to view this makeup organizer.

I do not like having things on my desk so I have always kept my makeup inside my desk when I lived in the dorms. To organize my makeup, I purchased this clear desk organizer which fit right into a drawer.

I used the center section for brushes and the sides for my different products. It worked out great!

Dorm Bathroom Essential #3: Light Up Mirror

Click here to purchase this mirror.

Dorm lighting SUCKS. It is really horrible and I wanted to have decent lighting when I was doing my makeup in the morning to make sure I didn’t look like a clown when I walked out the door.

This mirror worked great for me because it was pretty thin and it had two different light settings depending on what I liked. I also really liked this mirror because if my roommate was still sleeping and I needed to get ready in the morning, I wouldn’t have to put on the big light and could just turn this on.

Now that I am done with college, I take this with me on trips because I like it so much.

Dorm Bathroom Essential #4: Towel Wrap (!)

monogramed towels for college girls

Click here to view this towel wrap.

This is one of the top things I recommend college freshman get.

My mom actually purchased this for me on my birthday the year before I went to college. TBH, I was a spoiled brat and was really confused why I was getting a towel wrap for my birthday. She said she got it because she went to a store and there was a college student working that said this was her favorite thing she ever bought for college.

Let me tell you, I used this every single day in college. I can’t imagine not using it now. It is the best!! My mom got mine customized with a monogram on Etsy. It really isn’t much cheaper than purchasing a generic one from a store, but it makes it feel much more special and cute.

Reasons I recommend a towel wrap: Most dorms have you walk from dorm room to shower. You will see all kinds of people in the hallway (boys and girls). It’s nice to not have to worry about your towel coming off. I also like to wear it as I do my makeup and blow-dry my hair.

You can get a customized towel wrap here for $20.00.

Dorm Bathroom Essential #5: Towel Head Wrap.

head wrap for when you get out of shower in collegeClick here to purchase this head wrap.

I started using this along with the towel wrap. It is not as essential as the towel wrap, but it does dry my hair way better than a towel. It also keeps my hair out of my face while I do my makeup or wear a face mask at night.

You can purchase two head wraps for $12.95.

Dorm Bathroom Essential #6: Hair Basket.

dorm room organizing tip for hair products

Click here to view this hair basket.

This was one of my favorite dorm bathroom essentials I came up with my freshman year. On top of my dresser, I put a large cute basket like this (unfortunately the exact one isn’t available but this one is very similar). In this basket, I put anything hair related including my blow dryer, curling iron, straightener, brushes, hair oil, etc.

I loved this basket because when everything was in it, it looked organized but really I could just throw everything in it very quickly. I also liked it because if I wanted to do my hair in my friend’s room I could just carry the basket and have everything with me.

This basket also comes in gold.

Didn’t I list some dorm bathroom essentials you would have never thought about? This post showed you the bathroom essentials you need in your dorm room but didn’t think about.

These dorm room essentials will help you stay organized and allow you to move to college and not be worried about forgetting any bathroom supplies.

Top 10 Cutest Dorm Bedding Available This Year That All Freshman Need To See

This post is all about dorm bedding.

cute and inexpensive dorm bedding

One of the main focal points in a dorm room is made through the dorm bedding you choose.

You can go so many different directions with the type of bedding you put in your dorm (color, texture, price) that it can be really overwhelming.

For me, finding cute dorm bedding was a major pain in the butt. I looked everywhere and everything came across really tacky and not something I wanted to have in my dorm room.

This post is an extension from my Dorm Essentials for 2018 where I go over everything and anything freshman need moving into a dorm. I highly recommend all freshman to check out that post, it will fill you in on all the things you actually need to get for your dorm.

In the original post, I include my TOP favorite dorm bedding. I add those here along with 6 other cute dorm bedding. I included all different color combinations since I know everyone doesn’t want the same color.

Here is the top 10 cutest dorm bedding available this year.

Dorm Bedding

dorm bedding twin extra long grey

Click here to view this bedding.

I am obsessed with this bedding! I love the different texture it has on it while remaining neutral.

The reason I like neutral bedding so much is that as your style changes, you can change the pillows and other decor pieces around it instead of getting a whole new comforter (which can be pricey).

This is the most expensive comforter that I recommend (it’s from Urban Outfitters for $129.00) but if you plan on using this for two years or more, it might be worth it. Also, since its neutral, it will stay in style.

gray twin xl comforter for a dorm room

This is my favorite grey duvet for this year. Grey is such a popular color for a duvet that I knew I needed to add a lot of grey options. I really like this comforter because it adds a little something special to an otherwise plain and simple comforter.

This comforter also comes in white, pink, and blue! All are equally as cute.

It is very affordable at $76.49 and comes with four pillows (and in twin extra-long, what more could you want from a comforter set 😉 ).

white xl twin bedding from amazon

This picture is showing blue bedding, but this is my best WHITE duvet for this year. I love how it looks much more expensive than the other plain white duvets out there but is only $34.99.

It is available in twin extra-long.

Such a great option if you are looking to find blush bedding this year!

Also, I love that it’s from Target and very affordable. This same bedding comes in navy for anyone interested.

boho tassel dorm bedding

I think this bed gives off such a cool boho feel without it being too in your face.

This bedding is from Target (and is a great price). It also comes with a decorative pillow which is super nice!

white and navy dorm bedding

You can find this bedding here.

Such a classic option!

This has been a style that has remained through all different trends, so if you pick this piece, it is almost guaranteed that it will stay in style for a very long time.

I also love how it is just a little bit of color (the navy) so it makes just the right amount of impact.

One last thing about this comforter– it’s reversible!

This is definitely one of my favorite beddings available for this year.

My favorite parts are how it is one color throughout but has such great texture because of the detail on the comforter. And it looks super comfortable!

How cute, right?!

With this bedding, you could go so many different directions in your dorm. If you want more “cool” vibes, add some blue pillows. If you want it more girly, add some pink pillows.

However, this bedding is low on stock so I would recommend purchasing it sooner than later!

I had to add one more gray bedding option because it is so dang popular this year!

This one puts a twist on the usual gray bedding and makes it much more interesting.

Other Bedding Essentials

white sheets twin xl for dorm bed

Click this link to view these sheets.

I only use white sheets in my dorms. Two reasons for this: White looks the best (in my opinion) and if you get a stain on it, you can bleach it and it will look brand new.

This is the exact sheet set I used this past year and I really liked it because it also fit over mattress pad. Plus, it comes with a fitted sheet, sheet, and a pillowcase.

soft blanket for dorm room

My favorite blanket ever!! Get it in the queen… it is so soft and the best to snuggle up in. I used it all year and continue to use it at home (like every day).

It also comes in a million colors so you can choose one that mattresses your dorm room.

twin xl mattress topper

Click here to view this mattress pad.

This is the exact mattress pad I used and the BEST. I highly recommend looking at getting a 4in mattress pad. I purchased this one originally because it was the cheapest 4in mattress pad I could find and it is so good!!

I actually liked it so much that I even put it on my queen size bed at home because it was so comfy. I also had all my friends climb up on my bed so they could feel how good it was (yes, I was/am obsessed 😉 ).

Make sure to remember to get twin extra long!

I am a germ freak so this was a must for me. Even if you aren’t a germ freak I would highly recommend purchasing this. Not to put nasty images in your mind, but think about the things your dorm room mattress has gone through for years…. yeah, disgusting.

I put this over my mattress and then put my mattress pad on top of it. It also protects against fluids hitting your mattress, dust mites, and bacteria.

Your dorm room will get very hot (especially if you don’t have air conditioning) and it can be miserable at night.

My roommate actually had this and I thought it was so genius. It is battery operated (so no cords hanging off your bed) and you can attach it directly to the railing on your bed. It will keep you much cooler than having it on the ground (especially if you’re planning on bunking your bed).

It’s available on Amazon for $19.99.

I hope this post gave you some ideas on bedding options for your dorm. I know it can be hard to find cute bedding in the correct size for your dorm bed, and often times the ones they have that does fit look like they belong in a little kids room.

Along with the bedding, I included my favorite and most used bedding products. I highly recommend every freshman to consider adding these products to their dorm room packing list… I used them every single day!

15 Cheap Date Ideas That Will Cost Less Than $10 Dollars

This post gives you 15 cheap date ideas.

fun and creative cheap date ideas

Are you looking to go on a really fun date but not spend a lot of money?

Dating can cost you a lot of money but there are hundreds of dates that you can go on and barely spend any more.

My boyfriend and I used to think that if we didn’t have a lot of money than we wouldn’t be going on date nights and would just sit at one of our houses.

After thinking of some cheap date ideas we realized how stupid we were thinking that we could only go on dates if we had $50+ dollars for the night!

This post shows you 15 cheap date ideas that will cost you less than $10 dollars.

Ride your bike to your local ice cream shop.

Last week, my boyfriend and I decided to bike downtown for the first time in years. It was so much fun.

You can use your own bikes or find a rental bike program. Take the long way to the ice cream place and explore different parts of the city.

Congratulate yourself with a nice cold ice cream.

Go to $5 dollar movie night.

It is extremely standard these days for movie theaters to offer $5 dollar movies one or two days of the week. For my local theater, it is $5 dollar Tuesdays and we even get a free popcorn.

For how expensive theaters are these days, this is a great cheap date idea option to get out there and see some movies you and your boyfriend have been wanting to see without breaking the bank.

Go to the grocery store and get your favorite treat. Then eat it under the stars.

Drive to the local grocery store or gas station and pick out some of your favorite treats.

Come back to one of your houses/apartment and set blankets out on the lawn or balcony. Watch the stars while eating your treats and talk about your life with each other.

Go strawberry picking.

Strawberry picking is a summer staple and the best part about its very inexpensive!

You can spend half the day strawberry picking and then go back home and make chocolate covered strawberries. Get fancy with it and add some good toppings. If you want to keep cost down, look for toppings at the dollar store.

Find a local festival.

Go on Facebook and search “events near me”. Hundreds of different events will pop up and a lot of them will be free.

Pick some of your favorites that you want to attend. When you are there, you each have $5 dollars to try whatever food you would like.

Go volunteering.

This is such a sweet date idea which makes it one of my favorite cheap date ideas! Why not spend time together while helping people out?

Volunteering is free and gives you something to do while improving someone else’s life. After your down volunteering, go get an ice cream and talk about the people you have helped.

Concert in the park.

Cities around the countries offer concerts in the park and it really is one of the highlights of summers.

My city offers free concerts every Friday and it is one of my favorite date nights.

We like to make ourselves dinner before and bring some of our favorite drinks in a cooler. We get there and eat our dinner, drink our wine, and enjoy the free music.

Go for a picnic.

Find a cheap recipe on Pinterest that looks good to both of you and head to the grocery store for ingredients. Better yet, see what you can make with stuff already in your fridge.

Once the meal is made, pack it up and head to the local park. Enjoy your food with a picnic.

See if you can find something that you can redo to give it new life again. Not only will you have a fun new piece of decr but you also will have a piece to remember this date from.

Be test subjects at a local beauty school.

Beauty schools are always looking for testers to come in and offer extremely low prices so that their students can get real training.

While I don’t know if I would trust them touching my hair, I would enjoy a back massage or a pedicure. BTW, if your guy hasn’t tried a pedicure before, he needs one. My boyfriend loves them (and he has no shame 😉 ).

Take a trip to the animal shelter.

Go to your local animal shelter and walk around.

You can even go in and play with the dogs and cats. While it is sad to see the animals there, it may inspire you to adopt!

5 Dorm Room Cleaning Supplies I Used To Have the Cleanest Dorm On Campus

This post shows you dorm room cleaning supplies.

dorm room cleaning supplies to use to have a clean dorm room

I love cleaning.

Wait, actually scratch that. I love cleaning. I love being in a clean space.

I do everything better when I am in a clean environment and I knew that when I went to college I wanted to make sure that I keep my dorm room clean.

However, I was so stuck on what dorm room cleaning supplies I needed. I wanted to bring any cleaning supplies I could have possibly ever needed but knew that was unrealistic. So, after living in a dorm for two years, I have my cleaning routine down to perfection and the ideal list of dorm room cleaning supplies every college student should have in their dorm room.

Oh, and BTW, even if you hate cleaning (I know, probably the majority of you 😉 ) you still need to bring cleaning products to your dorm and these are the best of the best for dorm rooms.

This post shows you the 5 dorm room cleaning supplies I used to clean my dorm room.

PS: I put everything in order of when I use it. So first product I use first in my weekly cleaning routine and the last product I use last in my routine.

Dorm Room Cleaning Supplies: All-Purpose Spray

all purpose spray to clean your dorm roomThis baby is my go-to. It will clean anything in your dorm including sinks, dusting, mirrors, etc.

All-purpose cleaner is the way to go because it allows you to only have one bottle in your dorm that will accomplish multiple tasks.

My favorite is Method All-Purpose Spray because I think it smells the best. They have a ton of different scents that you can either buy from Target or Amazon.

When I clean my dorm, I always start with this. I give everything a really good spray because your dorm room gets dusty fast.

Dorm Room Cleaning Supplies: Paper Towelspaper towels to clean your dorm room

Do not forget to bring at least a few rolls of paper towels to school! Especially for cleaning.

I always used paper towels (versus regular towels) for cleaning in my dorm room because it is so much more convenient to throw nasty paper towels away than leaving the dirty used (actual) towel in my laundry basket until everything was clean. I just didn’t like the thought of that especially since I only did my laundry every other week.

Well, this is very basic, it really is a cleaning essential for me in my dorm room.

Dorm Room Cleaning Supplies: Small Vacuum

small vacuum for dorm room

One of my favorite things I have purchased for my dorm. Seriously, I can not recommend you enough to get one of these for your dorm room! Plus, it’s less than $20 dollars. You will get your money’s worth out of it!

I know that your dorm offers most likely offers you a vacuum, but those vacuums are very old and usually makes your dorm room more messy than cleaning it.

My roommates and I used it all the time, at least twice a week. It was convenient since it is very small and can be used within seconds.

It also comes apart so you can just use the vacuum part and then add the handle and bottom to it when you want to use it more like a traditional vacuum.

Dorm Room Cleaning Supplies: Disinfectant Spray

disinfectant spray for dorm room

Germ freak here :/.

College is FILLED with germs. There have been times when literally my entire floor was sick and I swear this disinfectant spray helped me get through those times without getting sick.

This would be one of the last steps in my cleaning routine and I would spray anything that people would normally touch. For example, door knobs, remotes, my desk, light switches, closet door handles, and even my phone. I went crazy with it.

Maybe it just convinces your mind you’re fine, or maybe it actually works. Who knows. But what I do know is that I barely got sick at all this year and that is an amazing accomplishment living in the dorms.

Also, a tip for using this: You don’t need to wipe it in. Just let it dry!

Dorm Room Cleaning Supplies: Dawn Soap

dawn soap for dorm room cleaning I would have never thought that I would use this dawn soap as much as I did freshman year.

Somehow, my freshman year floor got so many freakin’ stains on it I don’t even know how it was possible.

The worst stain of them all came from one of those wall scents (highly recommend those for your dorm BTW) breaking all over my floor…user error :/. I tried everything to get this stain out and never thought about using Dawn until my mom suggested it. I let it sit on it for a few hours and when I came back it was completely gone.

If you are living in a dorm this year, I highly recommend you get these products. I got a bin and put all my cleaning products in it so I could easily bring it down and have everything in front of me when I was ready to start my routine.

These 5 essential cleaning products will guarantee that you will have a clean dorm room throughout the semester.

8 Surprising Traits of All Healthy College Relationships

This post is all about college relationships.

surprising traits of all healthy college relationships

It is pretty easy to see what college relationships are going to last and which relationships won’t.

Some couples just have it together. They rarely ever fight and just seem to know how to navigate this difficult and testing time in our lives.

…and then there are others that break up every other day, are constantly jealous of other people, and fight 24/7. Yeah, we all know one of those.

SO, what exactly makes those good college relationships so good??

This post shows you how to navigate college relationships and the traits needed to ensure you have a healthy relationship.

1.Trust

The first step in successful college relationships is that they trust each other.

I know, obviously. I am getting this one out of the way because even though it’s obvious, it is so important. Especially in college.

What is one thing college relationships are known for? The drunk hook up. It is pretty normal for college students to go out on weekends (and many times weekdays) and you need to be trusting that your boyfriend won’t go hooking up with a random girl and use the excuse that he was drunk. (and same applies to you 😉 ).

You most likely won’t always be able to keep an eye on your boyfriend 24/7 to make sure that he isn’t doing anything else with other girls so it is imperative that you trust him.

Strong relationships in college have full trust that the other person is loyal when they’re not together.

2. They spend time apart.

It is really easy to only spend time with your boyfriend. After all, you would rather spend time with him than anyone else.

However,  it is essential that you still have parts of your life that don’t involve your boyfriend. Of course, let him know what you are doing but go out with just your girlfriends or do something else without him.

It is very normal for couples to spend 24/7 with each other but spending that much time together could possibly put other relationships in trouble. And let’s be real, spending that much time together gets old quick.

Having something that you like to do without your boyfriend will make those times you do spend together so much more special.

{Related Posts: 15 Ways To Show Your Long Distance Boyfriend You Love Him From Miles Away}

3. If something is bothering them, they speak up.

Certain people would rather hide something that is bothering them then just speaking up about it and fixing the problem.

While being quiet about whats bothering you might work at the moment, it will eventually come up or turn into something bigger.

Strong couples in college will speak up if something is bothering them or if they don’t like someone that the other significant other is hanging out with.

Example, if your boyfriend is snapping a girl that you think has bad intentions, speak up and say you don’t feel comfortable with that. If he respects you he will stop talking to her and it won’t turn into an issue like it could if you kept it to yourself.

4. They mutually like each other.

Obviously, if you’re dating each other you both like each other, right?! Well, yes. But do you ever see those couples from afar where it is obvious that one of them is way more into it then the other?

Forcing a relationship on each other is not going to work in the long run.

As a college student, you are SO young and don’t wont to be wasting your time (or heart…lame but true 😉 ) on someone that doesn’t care about them like you do.

By sophia lee dorm room essentials

5. They share the same values.

College, in general, is a test of your values. Do you have sex before you’re married? Drink before you’re legal? Cheat on tests?

Okay, those are just some main ones that a TON of people breaks. And I am not saying those are wrong (guilty :/ ). But if those aren’t in your boyfriend’s values but you are okay with, there will be some issue.

Moral of this all, it’s important to be clear on what you are comfortable with and what you are not comfortable with.

{RELATED POSTS: 15 Summer Date Night Ideas That Won’t Make You Go Broke}

6. They know how to compromise.

Being in a relationship is all about compromise. Compromising is not easy but if you can’t master the art of compromising, you won’t have a strong relationship.

More importantly, if you both don’t know how to compromise, you won’t have a strong relationship.

Whether it’s doing what you want to do one night and his the next, go see a movie you don’t want to see but he is dying too, or you going to a restaurant you love and he doesn’t like as much, its all about compromise.

The strongest relationships in college know how to compromise even if they don’t want too.

7. You schedule date nights.

Scheduling a date night a few times a month is SO important. I truly believe that making date nights important is key to a successful relationship.

College students are broke so it is easy to just put date night to the side. However, there are so many free and inexpensive date nights you can do that don’t break the bank.

Having date nights just the two of you (put those phones away), allows you to truly talk and hear about the other person life and what they are going through.

8. They speak highly about the other person.

Do you ever hear those couples that are just constantly putting the other person down? I hear it all the time.

For example, I have this one friend that always talks about how annoying her boyfriend is. And, I have another friend that always is talking about her fights with her boyfriends.

I am all about having one or two people who you can vent to, everyone needs someone like that. But constantly putting your significant other down is going to ruin your relationship.

You need to speak just as highly of your boyfriend as you hope he speaks about you. It will strengthen your relationship in ways you didn’t know it could.

Your relationship will constantly be tested in college so making sure that you have a healthy relationship is essential.

These 8 traits are obvious in all strong college relationships and will allow couples to continue their relationship to grow long past their college days.

Dorm Room Color Schemes | 6 Most Popular Color Schemes of the Year

This post shows you popular dorm room color schemes.

When I was going into my freshman year of college, one of the best parts was deciding on dorm room color schemes for our dorm with my roommate.

Since we would both be purchasing different things for the dorm room, we wanted to make sure that everything would somewhat work together.

I searched Pinterest everywhere for dorm room color schemes and I couldn’t find anything. So now, I am making it easy for you by going through the most popular dorm rooms on Pinterest and listing the colors so you can easily see possible options for you and your roommate.

This post is all about dorm room color schemes and shows you the trendiest colors to use in your dorm room this year.

Dorm Room Color Schemes: Pink, Gold, & Gray

This is a fan favorite and a dorm that a lot of girls want to copy. It’s just one of those dorm rooms that screams, this girl has got it together.

Honestly, I am not the biggest fan of polka-a-dots, but I have to say I think this girl made them look good.

To get this look, you need white bedding with pops of pink in pillows and gold decor for the walls. One way this dorm room was able to keep its theme was using black and white photographs. It made a small impact that really pulled the room together.

Okay, this is SO cute! I really think the palm trees make it look so cute and trendy.

To have this room, you and your roommate have to be willing to make a statement. Palm trees are so in right now and won’t be hard to find. Plus, if you live in a cold climate (ugh, Wisconsin for me) then this might be a mood booster on days where it feels like winter will never end.

For budget sake, I would recommend only getting accessories in the palm tree print and not anything that you plan on keeping for awhile. Who knows how long this trend will last and you will want to use the bigger and more expensive decor for years to come.

For that reason, I recommend getting a white duvet and if you like pink, a pink headboard. Bring in the palm tree print in picture frames, blankets, and pillows.

You can purchase the exact products in this picture from Decor 2 Ur Dorm. I highly recommend you check them out, they have great dorm room products!

Dorm Room Color Schemes: Blush Pink, White, and Gold

Clearly, people are loving blush pink ;).

This room is so put together and barely even looks like a dorm. I foresee this color scheme remaining popular for a while so it wouldn’t be a bad investment to buy decor for this room. You will be able to use it in your college apartment/house once you are done using it in your dorm room.

I love the pink quilt they used in this dorm. You can find it here. I also am obsessed with leopard so obviously, I love that pillow. If you don’t like the leopard print (I don’t blame you, I have friends who hate when I wear anything leopard!), then you can tone it down with a pillow that doesn’t have as much pattern.

You can find the monogram wall decal with this link.

Dorm Room Color Schemes: Navy, Pink, and Gold

navy white and pink dorm room color schemes

I am very surprised that I didn’t see more navy dorm rooms! I think a navy and the pink dorm room is the perfect mix of being feminine but not super feminine.

I am in love with the bedding and almost did this bedding in my own room. If you want to go preppier but still trendy, this is the perfect dorm room for you.

You can find the pink headboard here and the bedding here. Bringing in your own nightstand is a cute way to add more storage and make it feel more like a room and not a dorm.

Dorm Room Color Schemes: Gray, White, and a Pop of Bluegray color scheme for dorm room

Okay, I have to admit. The colors on the bottom of this picture don’t look the most appealing but when you see it all together it looks pretty dang good.

Grey is a SUPER popular color scheme just because it is so universally liked. These girls really stuck to grey and white and then added the tiniest bit of color on their fridge. Because this is really the only color in the room, it makes a big impact.

You can find the shelves they used above their bed here. This is a great way to get extra storage in a cute way. Here is the closest bedding I could find to theirs! I love the detail on the end.

Dorm Room Color Schemes: Neutral, Neutral, and More Neutral

I am a huge fan of this color scheme. It is probably my personal favorite.

My favorite part of this room is how clean it feels. I also love how if I get bored of how neutral it is I could easily be able to add a pop of color in a pillow and it would still look great.

The tassels and the blanket at the end of the bed really make the biggest difference in this picture. You can find the tassel she used with this link. You can find the knitted blanket here.

Aren’t these dorm rooms so cute?!

Finding dorm room color schemes that both you and your roommate like is not easy but these ideas will give you something for you and your roommate to go off of.

Happy dorm planning ;).
