I know it may be hard to think about cleaning when you're currently just trying to get everything packed and transported, but cleaning is an important step in your move! 

I'm here to take one big load off your shoulders and tell you everything you need to do while moving out to stay clean and organized!

One of my favorite ways to clean when tackling such a large space is to clean each room one space at a time. It's really easy to get flustered and try to clean too much at once, but just focus on one room at a time!

Here is a breakdown of how to successfully accomplish your moving-out cleaning.

THE BEST MOVING OUT CLEANING GUIDE:

MOVING OUT CLEANING : KITCHEN

  • Make sure your fridge & freezer are empty
  • Wipeout inside of fridge/freezer
  • Self clean your oven using the oven's setting
  • Scrub the inside of the microwave
  • Wipe the outside of all of the kitchen appliances
  • Wipe down counters & backsplash
  • Make sure the stovetop is clean
  • Dust the top of the refrigerator 
  • Use garbage disposal cleaner (so your house does not smell bad)
  • Move big appliances (fridge & oven) and vacuum or sweep behind them 
  • Take out all trash
  • MY FAVORITE KITCHEN CLEANING PRODUCTS:

    MOVING OUT CLEANING : BATHROOMS

  • First, put toilet bowl cleaner into the toilet bowls and let it saturate while you start other tasks
  • Make sure all drawers and cabinets are empty
  • Vacuum out the bathroom cabinets & drawers 
  • Wipe down all countertops
  • Spray shower cleaner onto the shower and let it sit 
  • Scrub the toilet after the cleanser has sat for a while
  • Clean the actual toilet - scrub the seat, under the seat, the outside of the tank, and the base 
  • Get rid of the limescale on your shower head by tying a ziplock bag filled with vinegar around the shower head (submerging the shower head in vinegar).  
  • Clear hair from the shower drains
  • Scrub your shower out & rinse 
  • Dust surfaces (don't forget to dust the light fixture)
  • Wipe down mirrors
  • Sweep & mop the bathroom floors

  • Vacuum and wipe down all Baseboards 
  • Dust windowsills and blinds (then lock the windows)
  • Dust ceiling fan & light fixtures
  • Make sure floors are swept/vacuumed/mopped
  • Make sure your closets are empty & vacuumed/dusted 
  • If carpet, try to remove any carpet stains

    MOVING OUT CLEANING: LAUNDRY ROOM

    • Move washer and dryer and make sure you get everything from behind there 
    • Dust, dust, dust!!! The laundry room gets super dusty, so make sure it's as dust-free as can be!  
    • Wipe down the outside of the washer and dryer so they look clean

  • Make sure all closets are cleaned out
  • Make sure the baseboards are dusted & wiped down (it really does make a difference)
  • Use a magic eraser to get scuffs and dirt off of doors & door frames
  • Clean windows, mirrors, tile, etc. with glass cleaner
  • Fill any holes that you were not supposed to put in & patch nicely
  • Vacuum/Sweep/Mop/Steam Clean all floors!!
